Emmy Liu — Product & Toy Designer based in Melbourne
I am an industrial design graduate specialising in product and toy design.
I enjoy designing products that create emotional connections and spark curiosity in users.
From CAD modelling and rendering to physical prototyping and material testing, my design process combines creativity with hands-on making.
KOALA STOOL
This koala chair was designed in my second year during a wood-working studio where we could create any chair we wanted. I chose a koala because many children feel anxious at the dentist, and a friendly, familiar animal can help make the waiting area feel safer and more comforting.
The chair is fully crafted from wood, functioning both as a seat and as a sculptural object, adding warmth and playfulness to a space that is usually cold and intimidating for kids.
LITTLE WORLD & BIG US
This project is a series of multicultural dolls designed to help children aged 3–6 learn about different cultures in a fun and respectful way. Each doll comes with changeable clothing and an educational storybook that introduces cultural traditions, festivals, and everyday life through simple storytelling. Rather than relying on stereotypes, the toys focus on meaningful representation and encourage curiosity, kindness, and appreciation for diversity.
The dolls were developed through research with parents and cultural representatives, as well as iterative prototyping using CAD modelling, sewing, and 3D printing.
SPIDEY’S MORNING ROUTINE PLAYHOUSE
This project was developed as part of a studio collaboration with Disney. This playhouse was designed to teach children morning routines through imaginative, room-based play. It can fold into a house or open flat as a playmat, with built-in storage and a carry handle for on-the-go fun.
The goal is to help kids build good habits while making daily routines less stressful for parents.
